French Company Saint-Gobain Enhances the Presence of Songdo Bio Cluster
Saint-Gobain Korea will operate its manufacturing facilities in Songdo. It is expected to contribute to the domestic production of bio-process products.

Saint-Gobain Korea, an affiliate of the France-based global company Saint-Gobain, completed a manufacturing facility (for which it owns 100% of the stake) for “products that use a cutting-edge bio-workflow” in Songdo bio cluster and began its operation on April 8. With the bio-fluid system manufacturing facility, manufacturing began for products that enable the relocation and storage of culture mediums and materials, according to the bio medicine process in Songdo. Saint-Gobain, with its long corporate history dating back to 1665, was designated as one of the top-200 global companies by Fortune magazine. The company, which has 170,000 employees in 67 countries, develops and produces ceramic materials and high-performance plastics, provides workflow products for various fields, including cutting-edge bioscience industries. With the newly launched operation of the Saint-Gobain manufacturing facility in Songdo, Saint-Gobain has begun providing products that had previously been provided to global companies to major biopharmaceutical companies in Korea, and the new facility’s existence in Songdo bio cluster is expected to upgrade the entire region.

Moves in to Cheongna
AIT moved in to Cheongna Incheon High Tech Park (IHP). It is expected to make huge contributions
to the competitiveness of the automotive industry.
In March 2019, the IFEZ and AIT signed an MOU for diversified cooperation for advancing Cheongna’s cutting-edge manufacturing sector, and the manufacturing and research facilities that began their construction in April last year were completed in February of this year. Now, the companies have finished moving in to IHP. AIT, established in 2016, is a joint company made up of Actronics, a Korean company, and INNOTEC, an American company. It is a specialized automotive application component maker. Actronics has gained recognition as a small but strong company, making most of its revenue in the Americas and once receiving the $10 million Export Tower Prize. On the other hand, INNOTEC is one of the top-100 small but strong companies in the U.S.A., possessing outstanding technology in the LED lighting field. The cutting-edge technologies that converge IT via technology affiliation, as well as INNOTEC’s automation workflow lines, have been applied to AIT’s new manufacturing and research facilities. With AIT taking up residence in the IFEZ as a cutting-edge manufacturer tied to the fourth industrial revolution, Cheongna IHP is projected to see great advancements in manufacturing and smart technology.

Innertron Designated as a Small but Strong Company with a Youth-friendly Culture for 2020
Innertron was designated as a small but strong company offering a youth-friendly culture for the year 2020, recognized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. Innertron is a company that manufactures core parts for mobile communication base stations and exports parts and measuring instruments around the world. Innertron has already been designated as a family-friendly certified company, excellent company for working innovation, etc. In addition, the company has participated in the IFEZ’s social contribution network, making donations of 25 million KRW and 30 million KRW in 2016 and 2017, respectively. This recognition as a small but strong company with a youth-friendly culture is bestowed upon small and medium-sized enterprises that offer a comfortable environment for young people to work in.

Construction of R&D Center and Pharmaceutical Factory in Songdo, Dong-A ST
A new OSD (Oral Solid Dosage) plant will be built in Songdo, which is scheduled to be used as an R&D center at Dong-A ST and as a manufacturing facility for finished medicines, such as diabetes and gastritis medicines. The new OSD plant will be built within Songdo bio cluster with the ground-breaking plan set for October, with some 90 billion KRW to be invested in the project. OSD refers to content solids, such as refining, capsules, etc. Dong-A ST already spent about 20 billion KRW to build an R&D center near the factory site in March last year. The R&D center and new OSD plant will be completed in December 2020 and February 2022, respectively. Dong-A ST is one of the 25 affiliates of holding company Dong-A Socio Holdings, a new entity created in 2013 after splitting its human resources from the former Dong-A Pharmaceutical Co.

Paradise City Receives 4-Star Rating from Forbes Travel Guide
Paradise City, located in Yeongjong, has been acknowledged as a distinguished hotel, gaining excellent scores for its customer service, dining, and other facilities in the “2020 Forbes Travel Guide.” By being classified with a 4-star level, Paradise City achieved the distinguished feat of reaching the 4-star mark at the time of its registration — representing the shortest period witnessed for a Korean hotel — through this first evaluation in the Forbes Travel Guide. The Forbes Travel Guide conducts secret visits to 5-star caliber hotels every year and evaluates their facilities and services based on the assessment of as many as 900 different items and elements. Paradise City, opened in 2017, is a resort complex boasting various tourism and entertainment facilities, such as a hotel, casino, convention center, theme park, art exhibition space, etc.
Completion of HUFS International Education Center in Songdo
Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) held a completion ceremony on February 10 to celebrate the completion of construction on the HUFS International Education Center, the 1st phase of construction for the university’s campus site in Songdo. During the ceremony, HUFS President Kim In-chul said, “As Songdo is the hub of cutting-edge industries and the medical and bioindustry, it is considered the optimal location for creating cooperative synergy with the BME department of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and it will grow to become an outpost for enhancing global capacities,” showing his great expectations for the center. The total area of the Songdo campus site for HUFS is 43,595 m2, and it is located in the High-tech Industrial Cluster (B). The development, comprised of three phases, is underway.
